Custom Window Blinds Weston
Window blinds are a type of window treatments. There are many different kinds of window blinds which use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is made up of several long horizontal or vertical slats of various materials (fabric, wood, plastic, metal) which are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Window blinds can be adjusted by rotating them from an open to closed position with either manual or remote control. A window blind is also known as a window shade. Window blinds reduce the heat from sunlight. Horizontal blinds use a thin woven corded “ladder” system to suspend the slats and enable slats to be closed via a rotating drum to which each upper end of the woven ladder is wrapped and attached. A lift cord allows the blind to be pulled up and stack tightly to the top of the window when desired.
Blackout Blinds Weston
Blackout blinds are perfect for bedrooms and media rooms. We provide blackout blinds in a variety of colors, patterns and designs. Some products need a blackout liner, which can be added to your order. Without this liner, some products cannot be classified as blackout blinds.
Faux Wood Blinds Weston
Faux wood blinds are an alternative to real wood blinds. Made of a composite of man-made materials and natural wood particles, faux wood is a less expensive choice than natural wood. These blinds have become more popular as the products have matured, becoming cheaper and more versatile at the same time offering more of a natural wood look. Faux wood blinds are relatively warp resistant, have UV ratings and come in many colors. Because of their resistance to warping, faux wood window blinds are a great choice for areas with extreme temperature changes. They are also the ideal choice for places with high moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens, since they do not warp as easily as natural wood.
Mini Blinds Weston
Other variety of window blinds include mini blinds (Venetian blinds with very narrow slats, usually 1 inch wide) and micro blinds (usually 1⁄2 inch wide).
Motorized Blinds Weston
Window blinds can be manual or motorized. Controls for motorized blinds can be from a wall switch or keypad, remote control, or a personal computer, eliminating the need for cords and allowing control of otherwise inaccessible windows.
Roller Blinds Weston
Roller blinds are a stiffened polyester, mounted on a metal pole and operated with a side chain or spring mechanism. Lower cost and ready made blinds often come with a PVC pole.
Roman Blinds Weston
Roman blinds block out the Sun. When opened Roman blinds stack up evenly, however when covering the full window height, they are smooth without overlapping. Roman blinds can be purchased with a blackout (fabric) lining on the back to fully block out sunlight. Unlike other blinds such as roller, vertical and Venetian blinds, Roman blinds offer minimal protection against high temperatures or moisture, making them unsuitable for bathrooms.
Venetian Blinds / Wood Blinds Weston
Venetian blinds have horizontal slats, one above another. Venetian blinds are basic slatted blinds made of metal or plastic. Wooden slats are also used, but in the US these are now usually referred to as wood blinds. They are suspended by strips of cloth called tapes, or by cords, by which all slats in unison can be rotated through nearly 180 degrees. The slats can be rotated such that they overlap with one side facing inward and then in the opposite direction such that they overlap with the other side facing inward. Between those extremes, various degrees of separation may be effected between the slats by varying the rotation. There are also lift cords passing through slots in each slat. When these cords are pulled, the bottom of the blind moves upward causing the lowest slats to press the underside of the next highest slat as the blind is raised. A modern variation of the lift cords combines them with the rotational cords in slots on the two edges of each slat. This avoids the slots otherwise required to allow a slat to rotate despite a lift cord passing through it, thus decreasing the amount of light passing through a closed blind. Slat width can be between 16–120 mm, with 25 mm being a common width. Wood blinds are generally known as Venetian blinds. A number of horizontal wood slats are joined together by corded pulleys which can either gather all the slats at the top of the window to reveal the view or simply angle the slats while allowing some light to travel through the blind yet retaining some level of privacy. Wood blinds come in a number of finishes and sizes. Wood Venetian blinds are also available as vertical blinds. These are usually made up of wider slats and operate in virtually the same way as their horizontal counterparts.
Vertical Blinds Weston
Vertical blinds uses a generally wider slat and has the added feature of being able to pull a cord to stack the slats together either to one side or to separate in the center and stack on each end.
Window Attachments Power
There are three options for powering motorized attachments: battery (direct current or DC), outlet (may be DC or alternating current— AC), and inwall (AC). Battery power has the advantage of being wireless and not involving an electrician, but it is better suited to smaller or lighter window attachments. Outlet power is convenient because an electrician does not need to wire the attachment. In new construction, outlets can be concealed along the margin of the window or more typically up at the top of the window behind a valence or the head cassette of the attachment. Inwall power is AC house wiring direct to the motorized window attachment. Inwall power is best accomplished when wall cavities are open, during construction or major renovation. AC motors are well-suited to heavy lifting and can even service multiple window attachments.
Motorized Window Treatments Controls
When motorized window treatments are controlled by sensors, timers, or programs, the system is automated. Controls for motorized attachments can be either individual or grouped. Options include everything from battery-powered, hand-held remote control to mesh network, smart phone app-driven systems to full integration with a home’s automation system. Programmable operation can be based on light intensity or temperature. Wind sensors can be included in exterior window attachment systems, which will then automatically retract when high winds threaten exterior attachments. Manufacturers of window attachment automation systems give detailed guidance on all the options and specifications for motors, power sources, and controls based on the type and size of window attachments.
